Sacramento – State legislators approved a bill by Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim) increasing penalties for distracted driving. Assembly Bill (AB) 47 requires the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to assess a point on a driver’s license, under certain circumstances, if they are convicted of a violation for operating a handheld wireless or communication device while driving.
Assemblymember Daly’s AB 1816 requires insurance companies to provide a 75-day notice to policyholders when they non-renew a homeowners policy. It also raises the limit on homeowners’ insurance claims covered by the California Insurance Guarantee Association (CIGA) to $1 million
Sacramento – Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed legislation by Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim) updating the definition of beer in California. As a result, “beer” will now be defined in state law to include things such as honey, fruit juice, herbs, spices and other food materials as adjuncts in fermentation.
Sacramento - Legislation seeking to establish California’s first-ever quality standards for recovery residences was approved by the Senate Health Committee on July 10. Recovery residences, also known as sober living homes, are currently unlicensed and unregulated.
Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim) issued the following statement in response to the 12-year prison sentence determined without due process:
“The federal government must immediately pursue all diplomatic options for securing the release of U.S. citizen Michael Phuong Minh Nguyen. He was convicted in a ‘show trial,’ without the ability to defend himself and without any formal charges being filed. This travesty of justice must be reversed, and he must be released from custody and returned to his family and friends in Orange County.”
