Sacramento- Today, Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim) introduced Assembly Bill 47 to crack down on distracted driving. Currently, driving while texting can result in a small fine, but it does not adversely impact an operator’s driving record. This bill would elevate a distracted driving citation to the same status as other dangerous driving violations, such as speeding or running a red light.
“Texting while driving is one of the most dangerous acts conducted by drivers. Unfortunately, fines alone have done little to discourage people from doing it,” Daly said. “Distracted drivers continue to injure and kill people on our roads and highways. It makes no sense to treat such behavior equivalent to getting a parking ticket.”
