Joint Oversight Hearing on Recent Audits of California’s Employment Development Department

Who:     The hearing will be jointly chaired by Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim), chair of the Assembly Committee on Insurance, and Assemblymember Rudy Salas (D – Bakersfield), chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, also known as JLAC.

What:   The hearing will focus on two recent audits of the Employment Development Department (EDD) by the California State Auditor – “Significant Weaknesses in EDD’s Approach to Fraud Prevention Have Led to Billions of Dollars in Improper Benefit Payments” & “EDD’s Poor Planning & Ineffective Management Left it Unprepared to Assist Californians Unemployed by COVID-19 Shutdowns.”

When:                  Wednesday, February 3, from 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon

Where:                 Assembly Chamber, California State Capitol

The results of the audits will be presented by State Auditor Elaine Howle, along with Bob Harris, Audit Principal with the State Auditor’s office.
