ADVOCATING FOR OUR COMMUNITY

My time in Sacramento is spent advocating in favor of issues important to our communities. This past year, I've been honored with awards for my strong support of our local education system and the Santa Ana River.

I was proud to receive an award from the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) in recognition of my outstanding commitment and support of our students. Throughout the years, I have assisted SAUSD in navigating state bureaucracy, supported more funding through the state budget and helped facilitate local grant winners, securing tens of millions more dollars for our education system.

This past week, I was humbled to accept the "Champion Award" from the Santa Ana River Trail & Parkway Partnership for my leadership in pursuing funding for the Santa Ana River Conservancy Program. Since being elected, I have fought for funding from the state budget and bond measures to be directed toward the Santa Ana River. I am committed to closing the gaps along the trail, ensuring all communities in the area can enjoy this great natural resource.

MAKING PROGRESS IN THE STATE CAPITOL

The California Legislature tackled many issues in 2017. Once again, a fiscally conscious budget was passed that continues to invest in California's Rainy Day Fund. The Legislature also tackled important issues that affect the everyday lives of Californians: Transportation and Housing.

To learn more about these accomplishments and other work in Sacramento, please visit my website.

WHAT ISSUE DO YOU THINK IS MOST IMPORTANT?

Hearing from our community is a vital part of my job. By listening to different views and opinions, I am able to better represent your interests. What issues do you think the California Legislature should focus on in 2018? Whether it be housing, government transparency, education or anything in between – I want to know how you feel.

Make sure your voice is heard by visiting my website and filling out this brief survey.

EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT TIP

State and federal income taxes are due on April 15. For the third year in a row, California is offering an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for working low-income families and individuals. This year, the eligibility thresholds were lowered, which will allow more individuals to qualify.

To learn more and see if you qualify, please visit my website.

I-405 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

This is the single largest project the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has undertaken. This project will add one regular lane in each direction between Euclid Street and I-605, making improvements to freeway entrances, exits and bridges. It will also add the 405 Express Lanes.

This project was aided by a law I authored in 2013. This law allows OCTA to use a "design-build" method of project delivery, resulting in an estimated cost savings of $100 million and a time savings of up to three years, according to OCTA.

To learn more about the project, please visit OCTA's website.

AT WORK IN OUR COMMUNITY

Operation Turkey

Daly Staff

My office distributed over 1,000 turkeys to families in Santa Ana this past Thanksgiving. These efforts ensured everyone in our community could celebrate this holiday with friends, family and loved ones. A big thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered at this event!

Helping Hands Award

Group with Award

It was an honor to be recognized by Helping Hands for my efforts in organizing a food and toy drive for families during the holidays. It's important during the holiday season to seize any opportunity that reduces stress and helps families create happy memories.

Orange County Women's March

Daly, Debbie, and Community Member
Daly, Debbie, and Staff

I joined our community at the Orange County Women's March in January in Santa Ana. We marched together in solidarity with women across the country as we continue down the path of empowering women and ensuring gender equality.

Heninger Elementary School Education Grant

Barona Education Grant

I presented the 2017 Barona Education Grant to William Skelly, Principal of the Martin R. Heninger Elementary School in Santa Ana. This grant, provided by the Barona Band of Mission Indians, will go toward purchasing five Phantom Drones. This technology will be a valuable asset to the school's coding and film program.
