WomenShelter of Long Beach was recognized by Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, as Assembly District 69’s “Nonprofit of the Month” for August.

This award is an important way to recognize and showcase the work that individuals and organizations are doing in the community to improve people’s quality of life, Lowenthal said during an interview.

“So many of those people, like those at the WomenShelter, have a calling and their wiring tells them that they should volunteer their time for those who are less fortunate,” he said. “The least that we can do is to honor those people and to educate others throughout our community of the good work that is being done on behalf of all of us.”

The organization plays an vital role in the community, Lowenthal added, as being a place people experiencing domestic violence can seek assistance and resources.
