Governor Signs Bill Keeping Orange County Fair & Event Center in Place

The Orange County Fair & Event Center is not going anywhere thanks to legislation signed by Governor Jerry Brown on Monday.

“I thank the governor for his support for my bill, which deletes the provisions of state law exposing the property to a potential sale,” said Assemblyman Tom Daly (D-Anaheim). “The Fair & Event Center is a source of pride and enjoyment for people across Orange County, and this ensures it will remain the special place that it is.”

Gov. Jerry Brown put pen to paper Monday and signed a bill that bars the sale of the Orange County Fair & Event Center property.

The bill, AB 1907, was introduced in February by state Assemblyman Tom Daly, D-Anaheim, and passed by wide margins in the Assembly and Senate, on June 1 and Aug. 17, respectively.

State Assemblyman Tom Daly, D-Anaheim, introduced AB 1907 in February, with the intention of striking down two provisions of state law allowing the sale of the 150-acre property by the state Department of General Services.

Assemblymember Tom Daly visited with students from Anaheim High School Wednesday as they competed in the inaugural Statewide Design-Build Championship in Sacramento.

The competition required high schoolers to both design and build structurally sound playground equipment within a two-day time period. Anaheim finished in first place.

Assembly Approves Daly Proposal to Protect Orange County Fair & Event Center

The California State Assembly voted today to approve AB 1907, legislation by Assemblymember Tom Daly (D – Anaheim) to prevent the sale of the Orange County Fair & Event Center property.

AB 1907 eliminates a pair of provisions in state law authorizing the sale of the property. That authority has existed since 2009, when the State Legislature agreed to support a proposal by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sell the fairgrounds, along with several other sites, as part of an effort to close a $42 billion state budget deficit during the Great Recession.

Assemblymember Tom Daly honored Dr. Erlinda Martinez, the President of Santa Ana College, as the “Woman of the Year” for the 69th Assembly District, which features the communities of Santa Ana, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Orange.

Dr. Erlinda Martinez currently serve as the President of Santa Ana College, an institution which recently celebrated its centennial birthday. She’s announced her retirement in June, marking the culmination of a career in education spanning over four decades. Erlinda has worked at five community colleges and served as President of Santa Ana College for the last 11 years.
